Abby
Cocker Spaniel, ,Meet Abby! This 9-year-old Cocker Spaniel with a big personality and an even bigger heart, weighs 35 lbs. Abby is looking for a human that can give her some Grade A belly rubs, is that you?
- General Behavior: Abby is a wonderful pooch with a bright and happy demeanor. She loves her person very much, and enjoys their company. She can initially be wary of strangers, but scratch her ears, and rub her belly, and she’s all yours!
- Likes & Dislikes: Adorable Abby enjoys spending her days on the job with her foster dad. She wakes up every morning, eager to get the day started and head on in to her 9-5. She loves her neighborhood strolls, then coming back inside for a short game of tug of war.
- Training: This sweet gal has wonderful house manners and does well with her housetraining when kept to her schedule. She is still working on her social skills and may initially bark upon meeting new people and dogs. She has some tricks up her sleeve, knowing commands like sit, lie down, turn around, and high five!
- Medical: Abby has Hypothyroidism and allergies, but her thyroid condition is controlled and managed with twice-daily medication. The cost of this medication is approximately $5 a month. She visits her vet every 8 weeks or so for an injection to help with her allergies, this costs approximately $125. Aside from this, she takes her monthly heartworm and flea preventative like any other pooch.
- Other Animals: Abby’s ideal home would be one without any other animals. She prefers to have her human all to herself and having other dogs around causes her stress.
- Children: Abby is a playful gal and interacts well with children, although she can easily knock over young kiddos. A home with older kids (8+) would be okay.
- Home: A single-family home or dog-friendly apartment living would be a perfect fit for Abby! As long as she has a nice selection of toys, affection from her family, and a comfy blanket to snuggle up in, she is content.
- Grooming: As a Cocker Spaniel, Abby requires a trip to the grooming spa every 8-10 weeks. Her future family can expect to pay approximately $85+ to get her beautified.
- Overall: Abby is such a fun and precious gal with so much love to give to her trusted human! She is sure to make a wonderful companion.
Are you the one for Abby? Visit our website www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org where you will find the application to adopt. You’ll be put in contact with her foster family for more information if it’s a potential match. She is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, spayed, and heartworm negative. The adoption donation for Abby has been reduced thanks to a generous grant from Kia and the Petfinder Foundation, and is $250.

Terrier (Unknown Type, Small), ,Meet Avery! This sensitive boy is ready to find his forever home, with a dog savvy adopter. He is a 2-year-old terrier blend weighing 16 lbs. We suspect this poor guy spent the first part of his life with little to no human interaction, so he is still learning the pleasures of being pet and loved. In addition to owning or working with a rescue pup before, he will need someone who is loving, patient and understanding of his needs.
- General Behavior: Avery is generally very happy and will spend most of his day playing with dog toys while wagging his tail. He has been in loving foster homes for several months and has come a LONG way. He has some separation anxiety and wants to be close to his human, even if he doesn’t fully trust yet. Some days his foster mom can touch him, but many days he is still fearful and prefers just being close to her for company and within reach of her. We are hopeful that as his confidence and trust grows, he will one day outgrow any fears of touch that he currently has.
- Likes & Dislikes: Avery LOVES mealtime and he will eat out of his foster’s hand and take treats gently. He loves to lay in the sun if his person is with him. Should you get up and walk away, Avery will follow right along and be your little shadow. A "dislike" for Avery is being confined to a space.
- Training: Avery is housetrained when let outside on a regular schedule. In fact, he will let you know when he must go outside. He is still working on his basic manners and is not a fan of car rides. Everything is still scary for Avery, so he is working on learning that people, places and things can be okay. Avery’s foster has been working very hard at making him comfortable with the leash and progress has been made. His new human will need to continue working with him, so the leash becomes his friend. Avery is very sensitive and if you try to correct him, he will retreat for hours. “Slow and steady” will need to be the motto as his new human continues working with him to build confidence and make him more comfortable.
- Medical: Avery is a healthy pup and will just require monthly heartworm and flea prevention, like any other pup.
- Other Animals: Avery likes the company of other calm and laid-back dogs. He enjoys playing with the dogs in his foster home and his new forever home MUST have a dog, or dogs. He has always lived with dogs, and looks to them to know how to act and how to "be a dog". He seems to only allow his foster to pet him when the dogs are not in the room. He does not, however, get along with cats.
- Children: Avery is extremely nervous around children, so a home without children will be required.
- Home: Avery will require a single-family home with a fenced yard. This is due to his barking when his human leaves, as well as his nervousness on a leash (he spends his time trying to pull out of his collar/harness). He would benefit from being in a home where his new person is home more often than not. Avery has free reign of his foster’s home, and he has not had any issues with chewing or destroying anything (except dog toys of course). He gets anxious when his foster leaves and will cry and bark until they return. When the foster returns, Avery will squeal, jump up, get the zoomies and even give an occasional lick on the foot or leg. He has been sleeping at the foot of the “big person” part of the night and will also sleep in his own bed.
- Grooming: Awesome Avery will need regular brushing and nail trimming. His foster was happy to report that she was able to brush him recently for about 30 minutes. He was nervous at first, but in the last 10 minutes, he seemed to enjoy it and even laid down and closed his eyes. Nail trims may initially need to be done at the veterinarian as he works through his nervousness.
- Overall: If you are looking for a sweet boy who could quickly become your shadow, and you are willing to offer love, patience and understanding, Avery may be the one for you.
Are you the one for Avery? Please visit our website, www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org where you will find the application to adopt. You’ll be put in contact with his foster family if it’s a potential match. Avery is fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and even had a recent dental. The adoption donation for Avery has been reduced thanks to a generous grant from Kia and the Petfinder Foundation, and is $350.
show lessBella
Terriers (Medium), ,Meet Bella! This 7-year-old Terrier blend weighs 25 lbs. Are you looking for a loving and loyal companion to stay by your side throughout the day? If so, Bella is your gal!
- General Behavior: Bella is a happy and easygoing pooch that loves her human with all her heart! She is content as long as her human is around, and she has a comfy blanket to snooze on. She is quite gentle and laid-back, making her a wonderful addition to a loving household.
- Likes & Dislikes: Beautiful Bella is a huge foodie! She enjoys munching on carrots, dog treats, and dental chews. She gets excited when she sees her treats and will wiggle her butt and tail in pure glee. Bella does not like when her humans leave her at home and gets quite sad. She'd much rather spend time with her family, getting snuggles, than be alone.
- Training: This happy girl has good basic manners and walks well on a leash. She does well with her housetraining when let out frequently. At night, she is content sleeping in her comfy dog bed until morning.
- Medical: Bella occasionally takes medication to help control her anxiety during stressful situations. Aside from this, Bella is a healthy pooch that will just require her monthly heartworm and flea preventative, just like any other dog.
- Other Animals: Bella has a dominant personality and is dog selective and prefers her humans over canine friends. She has interacted with other dogs and it takes her time to warm up to them. She may be better suited for a home as an only dog. If she does go to a home with another dog, she will need a dog-savvy adopter. Someone that will not leave them out unattended together as she can get snappy with other dogs. She has not been introduced to any cats at this time.
- Children: Bella is a gentle girl, even when playing! She has done well in each interaction she has had with children and would likely be a great addition to a family with respectful children who understand boundaries.
- Home: Bella will require a single-family home without any directly connected neighbors. Due to her frequently vocalizing her dislike for being left alone, it would be best that Bella have a family that is home more often than not, that can provide her with the love, comfort, and attention that she deserves and craves.
- Grooming: As a short-haired pooch, Bella will not require frequent grooming, other than regular baths and nail trims.
- Overall: Bella is a sweet and happy girl with so much love to give to her people. A person looking for a loyal and laid-back companion would be a perfect fit for Bella!

Permanent Residents
Some of our dogs will stay in our care forever. Some have been through so much change and trauma in their lives that putting them through more change isn’t in their best interest, others may have medical needs or need hospice care – these dogs will remain in PPR foster care for the rest of their lives as Permanent Residents.
