Our PPR Volunteer, Sasha, Gets a Dream Opportunity

If it seems like we’re “gushing” a little over our teen volunteer, Sasha, well, it’s only because WE ARE!

Sasha joined our PPR team of volunteers years ago, following in her mom’s footsteps. She found her sweet spot and became hooked on making a difference in the lives of homeless animals.

Fast forward a bit, and Sasha spread her passion over into another great local rescue organization, Greyhounds in Motion (GIM). Her volunteer service helps expedite the transition that retired greyhound racers make to get into loving furever homes.

And like a domino effect, another sweet opportunity opened up for Sasha.

Thanks to her connection to GIM, she learned about Galgos del Sol, a large rescue located in Murcia, Spain. They save abandoned and injured Galgos— the name for Spanish hunting greyhounds—as well as other Spanish sighthounds. Then they do the work to rehabilitate them and find homes in the United Kingdom, United States, Spain, and Belgium.

Sasha and a few other GIM volunteers traveled over to Galgos del Sol’s facilities in Spain and got to step into the stories of many of the pups being helped by the rescue. Between grooming, socializing dogs, and keeping kennels clean, the volunteers were all kept busy doing what they love—caring for the homeless but deserving dogs.

Sasha noted that the puppies, although adorable, tend to be the messiest. She also shared that her favorite experience was when she was asked to assist the vet with a neuter, remove staples, and take x-rays.

What an AMAZING opportunity this was for a young gal considering a career in veterinary care.

We’re proud of your servant’s heart, Sasha, and couldn’t be happier YOU had such a memorable experience!
