Loretta would like to thank all of our followers for their love and support this week. Just a week ago, she was still living in an outdoor cage, clearly neglected and most likely used for breeding, while trapped in a painful prison of her own matted fur.
Now, thanks to the swift action taken by grooming angels within our community, she has undergone what was mostly likely her very first spa day ever.
The story of Loretta’s emergency groom received so much attention that Loretta has even been featured in a number of local and national media outlets!
Loretta also visited our vet earlier this week, where we learned the following:
She’s about 1 to 1.5 years old
She’s about 10 lbs. underweight
She has hookworms
She has heartworm disease
She appears to have an old fracture to her humerus bone near the elbow joint which healed poorly, leaving her with significant arthritis in the joint
It is likely she had a litter of puppies at some point
Knowing heartworm treatment is in Loretta’s future, her road to recovery will be lengthy. But in the meantime, she is content and at peace in her foster home. She has a big cozy orthopedic bed to snooze in and has received lots of love (and treats!) from her foster family.
We love you, Loretta!
