Volunteer Spotlight – Rebecca

The unwanted, sick and neglected dogs never stop coming, and Rebecca never stops doing everything she can to make sure they find families to love them forever.

As Poodle and Pooch’s president and a board member, Rebecca is involved in every step of the rescue process.

“Anytime anyone needs her, she’s there. She has such a kind heart, and she loves everybody,” fellow board member Amy says.

Rebecca and her husband, Kevin, adopted their first rescue dog more than 20 years ago, and that’s when they realized the great need to be the voice of the voiceless. Rebecca started helping out with rescue dogs whenever she could.

“I was so inspired by the volunteers that were fighting to do the right thing, and I fell in love with all of the helpless animals that relied on us to fight for them,” Rebecca says.

She joined our rescue in 2008.

Even with five dogs of her own, Rebecca gladly takes in fosters, vowing that every single dog will be treated like family. And she rarely takes a break – even when she’s supposed to be taking a break.

Fellow board member Mary Beth says, “I couldn’t admire her any more than I do. She’s an amazing person. And one who sets a high standard in dog rescue.”

A few years ago, Rebecca and Kevin were on vacation in Georgia with another couple when she heard about a heartworm positive, pregnant dog with a broken leg that had been dumped at a rural Georgia shelter. They scooped up the dog, named Lizzy, on their way back to Florida, and Lizzy started having babies in the back of her car.

Rebecca was able to get all six puppies adopted, but she kept Lizzy, who later had to have her broken leg amputated.

For Rebecca, rescuing dogs is a family affair. In addition to her husband, her mother, Kay, is also deeply involved with Poodle and Pooch.

Rebecca, a real estate agent, also helps our rescue through her paying job. For every house she sells, she makes a donation to our rescue or a shelter of the buyer’s choice.

“Rebecca is the heart of PPR. Her leadership is inspiring, her kindness is infectious, and her commitment is unwavering. What inspires me the most about Rebecca is how she gracefully handles every situation with compassion.” Carson, another board member says.

We love and appreciate you, Rebecca!
