Love Is Ageless: Adopt a Senior

Are you looking to adopt a best friend for life? Consider a senior dog.

There are so many reasons to open your home to an older dog. And there is a huge need. Our older canine companions often get passed over for young, energetic puppies.

November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month, and Poodle and Pooch Rescue of Florida focuses on older dogs with its Saving Seniors program. For seniors, our vets perform diagnostics and care beyond the standard health check, spay and neuter, and vaccinations. Since our nonprofit rescue began 15 years ago, we have helped hundreds of senior dogs find loving homes.

Top reasons to adopt a senior dog include:

  • In many cases, they are already house-trained.
  • You don’t have to guess how big (or small!) they will be.
  • Senior dogs are more calm and require less activity.
  • They can still learn new tricks.
  • Your older pup will be forever grateful.

The Grey Muzzle Organization, which improves the lives of senior dogs by providing funding and resources to animal shelters, rescues and other nonprofit groups nationwide, reports that most people who adopt older dogs have no regrets and would happily do it again. Poodle and Pooch Rescue is proud to have received grants from The Grey Muzzle for the past four years.
