Volunteer Spotlight – Susan

Susan is our lead volunteer in The Villages. She’s a long time foster mom and foster coordinator. She lives with three ShihTzu mix PPR foster fails; Lucy Lu, Bella and 19 1/2 yr old Ms. Pepper. Susan assists with transports from Sumter County and advocates for dogs from Animal Services there. Susan has been involved with rescue for many years and started volunteering with PPR in 2014 after the passing of her beloved senior Cocker “Midnight” in whose memory she rescues. Susan is also a member of our permanent foster program, caring for PPR special needs dogs and offering a quiet, comfortable home for them to spend the rest of their lives. She says, “ I especially enjoy caring for the senior special needs dogs and those coming from puppy mill situations that have never known love. I give them time and space and it’s so rewarding to watch them slowly come around, wanting love and petting after having only known fear of humans.”

Susan recruits a lot of great help in The Villages, along with gathering much needed supply donations. She’s turned one bedroom of her villa into a supply storage area and routinely hauls beds, crates, food and other supplies to our vetting partners to share with other fosters. Susan has successfully placed 100+ dogs into their forever homes – many in The Villages – where they’re spoiled rotten and living the life of a retiree.

Thank you Susan, for being such a ROCK STAR on our team! You make a real difference in the lives of so many dogs in need!
