When Julie moved to Florida she looked into fostering at shelters and rescues since she fostered & volunteered for the Humane Society in Chicago previously. She liked what she learned about PPR online so she applied, talked to one of our volunteers and felt like PPR was a good fit. She started out by fostering dogs and discovered that her family’s lifestyle was not a great fit for this. She then moved to the PPR Donor team, which sends updates on our dogs to the donors who support our pups financially. She still gets some in person time with the dogs since she does transports and some short-term fostering.
When asked what Julie likes about volunteering with us, she said “The best thing about being on the donor team is reading updates for ALL the dogs at PPR. I get to see all the transformations, all the sweetness, all the adoptions. It makes me feel good about my small part in a dog’s journey because it really does take a village. I absolutely love being on the donor team. Dog rescue can seem endless, thankless and lonely at times. It’s a lot of hard work and we see much cruelty. We can’t do this work without our donors, and to me they really feel like part of the team. Many of them respond to updates with not only their concern and love for the pups but also their thanks for the hard work we all do. Their thoughtfulness and caring helps me focus on the good we can do together, to make a better life for one dog at a time.”
Julie lives in Lake Nona, with her husband, two teens, and their Shih Tzu, Peanut. She enjoys tennis, golf and just being outdoors. Julie also volunteers as a dog walker at the Osceola County Animal Shelter.
Thank you Julie, for volunteering with Poodle and Pooch and contributing to the team. You are making a difference in the lives of dogs in need!
