To say Janet is busy would be an understatement. The mom of two young children is also a real estate agent and former pro golfer who ran the New York marathon last year to raise money for golf programs that engage juniors and veterans.
But she always makes time to volunteer with Poodle and Pooch as a member of our donor team.
Janet writes a thank you letter to each Save a Dog sponsor and then sends updates throughout the adoption journey – from foster care to when they find their forever home. It’s a big task because some dogs stay with their fosters for months, and Janet makes sure to keep sending news and photos.
“Our donors are so generous,” Janet says. “We’re trying to thank them, but they’re thanking us.”
Janet got involved with Poodle and Pooch about three years ago after seeing a Save a Dog post on Facebook. The pup reminded her of her first dog, who had passed away about six months earlier. She immediately sponsored him.
“And right away I received an email back,” Janet says. “I was blown away, and that at point I thought, ‘How can I do more to help?’ It was really a stroke of luck I came across PPR. All their values lined up with everything I believed in.”
With two little kids, the timing wasn’t right to foster. That’s when she joined the donor team.
Several months later, a 5-month-old Australian labradoodle came into the rescue’s care, and “it was love at first sight,” Janet says. She volunteered to foster Charlie even before talking to her husband. Charlie was foster fail No. 1.
A year or so later, Heidi, a bernadoodle mix, was foster fail No. 2. Now, they have a full house and aren’t fostering, as much as Janet wants to. “I just can’t let them go,” Janet says.
We are thrilled that Janet is part of our team!
