Volunteer Spotlight — Deb

When we take in unwanted and unloved dogs, they don’t just magically find homes. A lot of hard work goes into it, and a big part of that is using social media to highlight our pups when they are ready to be adopted.

Enter Deb.

A Poodle and Pooch volunteer for an astounding 14 years, Deb manages our Facebook account, which has more than 33,000 followers. That’s a whole lot of folks who are eager to get responses to their messages at all hours of the day. In fact, it’s practically a full-time job. Last year, about 450 people messaged our Facebook account, and the average response time was an impressive two hours. That’s all Deb.

With an educational background in biology, professional experience in sales and her deep knowledge of the dog rescue world, Deb is a master at interpreting jargon-filled veterinary notes and marketing dogs in a socially savvy way.

But that’s not all. Over the years, Deb has fostered 86 (!) dogs. That’s in addition to PPR dogs of her own – Nora, Trixie and Bruno. She’s also currently fostering permanent resident Lala, a chihuahua puppy with a heart condition. Deb is known as a chi-whisperer because chihuahuas do so well with her.

Her passion for rescuing dogs does not waver.

“We have a core group of volunteers who have literally shed blood, sweat, and tears for our dogs, and we will happily do it again and again,” Deb says. “I’m so proud of the impact we’ve had on thousands of lives. It only takes one person to make a difference, find something you love and give of your time and yourself. Your reward will be greater than you ever anticipated.”

We are so thankful we have Deb on our team!
