Volunteer Spotlight – Cristen

About 12 years ago, Cristen had a good friend that worked worked with a PPR volunteer and told her about it. She thought fostering sounded like the most fun thing she had ever heard and immediately applied to foster. Since then she’s fostered too many foster dogs to count!

Cristen works from home and one of her favorite things about fostering is the companionship throughout the work day. She also takes her fosters with her whenever she can, to outdoor dining places, home improvement stores, friends’ houses, kayaking or to run errands. In talking about volunteering for PPR specifically, she says she has always been very supported as a foster parent and feels that in regards to how a dog should be loved, her values align with our rescue. Her foster coordinator for the past twelve years, Rebecca, is the main reason she’s stayed with PPR! She says that PPR spares no expense when it comes to diagnosis, treatment, medications, rehabilitation, training, food, bedding, crates or anything else a foster dog could possibly need. And she notes that other PPR volunteers are always willing to share their knowledge and expertise, assist with transport or help take photos for adoption listings.

Cristen fosters because she loves it, it’s fun and PPR is great! She thinks she may be the only PPR foster who hasn’t personally owned a dog herself the entire time she’s fostered, but this allows her to focus all of her love and attention on her foster dog. Another benefit of this is that she can also more easily foster dogs that may be reactive to having another dog in the home.

Thank you Cristen, for your long term dedication to the dogs of PPR!
