Portia is one of the 14 backyard breeder dogs we saved recently. This little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is one of the more severely neglected dogs out of the group. At 9-years-old, Portia is weak from years of over-breeding. She has advanced heart disease and her body is riddled with infection, from her mouth and ears, to her skin.
Portia’s body might feel defeated, but her spirit is not. After a nice, clean bath and making the trip to her foster home, Portia immediately curled up in her foster mom’s lap. It’s almost as if you can see her breathe a sigh of relief, after having finally arrived in a better place. Portia still has a long road of recovery ahead, but in her mind she is finally safe. Her wish at a new life came true!
