Spotlight on Alison 🤩 Compassion in Action

A heart ❤️ of compassion DRIVES the desire to step into the complicated and sometimes heartbreaking stories of dogs in need. But IT’S the hands and feet of volunteers that carry out the endless hours of work behind the scenes.

Alison Hudson is one of those volunteers.

In 2019 she stumbled across the PPR website. She wanted to make a significant difference in pups’ lives and was granted a birthday wish by her husband—he said, “YES” to becoming PPR fosters.

Since that time. they have enthusiastically welcomed a whole “Baker’s Dozen” of deserving pups into their home. In Alison’s own words, here are the 13:

• A foster-turned-forever dog named Sammy
• A tri-pawed Poodle
• An extremely smart Kelpie
• An utterly adorable floofball Pekingese
• A dancing Chihuahua
• The bravest little guy with a broken leg
• A teeny tiny Yorkie
• 2 devoted best friends
• A hairless wonder
• An intrepid little Bichon blend
• A gregarious senior Pekingese
• Special needs Shelly

Anyone involved in the world of dog rescue knows that willing foster families are the cornerstone for finding fur-ever homes. Not only is it critical for these homeless pups to receive the love they so desperately need, but the foster environment equips PPR to know the personality of the dogs and what types of families are the best fit.

At times, in the course of getting to really know a dog, a foster family might fall in love. We affectionately call this a “foster fail.”

(By the way… It’s the best kind of fail!)

Sammy, a homeless 15-year old Pekingese, did just that. He warmed his way into Alison’s and Duncan’s hearts and became a permanent part of the Hudson family. 

Now a little over 16, Sammy is still going strong. He has his own Instagram following, his favorite food is roast chicken, his preferred color is “chicken-colored,” and his newest best friend is anyone holding a piece of chicken.

Earlier this year, Alison wanted to do MORE, and she found her “sweet spot” as a part of PPR’s media team. If you’ve read any of our recent adoptable dog bios, then you’ve seen her GREAT work. 

From the very beginning, she has shown that her natural writing skill and meticulous approach to each story is the perfect combo for penning bios that reflect every pup’s true character. When she notices that a dog listing isn’t garnering an appropriate response, she jumps into action by requesting updated images and tweaking the bio.

PPR is lucky to have Alison on our team.

Recently we caught up with her to learn a few “fun facts” and gain some insight into our “Wordsmithing Foster Gal.”

What’s your favorite coffee order?

Typically I tend to drink chai tea, and preferably with a doggie nearby.

Where is your favorite Central Florida spot?

Blue Spring State Park—we took our first outing with Sammy there to see the manatees.

Is there a quote that you love right now?

What was your childhood aspiration?

I wanted to befriend as many dogs as possible. So far, it has worked out well 😍

What’s the best time of day for you? 

I love the end of the evening when I sit down with a good book and Sam curls up in his little bed for his bedtime story.

At PPR…

Our mission is clear—to save as many “leftover” dogs as possible. It’s a high calling and one that is only possible by the strength of our volunteers. 

Thanks to Alison and her hubby, many more dogs will be united with the families they deserve.
