PPR Gets Urgent Call

Yesterday, we got another urgent request for help. Animal Service officers were called to the home of a disabled person living in filth with two senior dogs at the residence. She agreed to surrender them to the county and PPR was called right away.

Jack is a 10 year old Schnauzer blend whose fur was so matted that he had limited mobility in his legs. Because it was difficult for him to walk, it caused his muscles to atrophy. Once shaved, it was also discovered that he had ruptured anal glands and necrotic tissue. His mouth is a mess with red and inflamed gums along with several pus pockets. He has bilateral ear infections, his skin really needs help and his toenails are so long he hobbled when he walked.

Boss is a 10 year old Chihuahua so he fared a little better by not having hair that matted. He was covered in fleas like Jack, his toenails overgrown, his skin showing signs of a bacterial infection, he had yeast in both ears and his teeth are awful.

These poor seniors lived in their own filth, having garbage, urine, and feces all around them. Jack and Boss needed immediate medical attention with their urgent needs addressed, then started on vitamins, antibiotics, flea and heartworm meds. They’ll be vaccinated, will have extensive dentals, then a foster will provide a safe place where they can recover and learn how to live comfortably in a healthy home. So glad they are now with PPR!
