Volunteer Spotlight – Mercedes

Mercedes started volunteering for PPR as a way to give back to us after adopting a poodle super-hero in 2011. Old, deaf and mostly blind, Rosie was rescued from a backyard breeder. She comforted Mercedes’ grandmother, who was suffering from dementia, and she was a great help to Mercedes’ mom as she recovered from strokes. A classic case of Who rescued Whom?!

Mercedes has had a dozen fosters. She often fostered dogs that didn’t play well with others, since she did not have a dog of her own. She thinks it’s a gift to be able to see them relax and realize they’re going to be okay. Her volunteering with PPR has taken many forms: writing bios, fostering and running events. She’s had the chance to take on new challenges and the opportunity to meet some amazing dogs – and people! Mercedes says: “PPR volunteers are compassionate, smart, sensitive problem-solvers who never say quit – and strive to always support each other and the dogs who need us the most!”

Mercedes is from Pittsburgh, PA and enjoys crosswords, clever conversation, travel and watching a variety of birds out her back window. On any given day you can find her in the pool or petting her perfect foster fail, Leda.

Thank you Mercedes, for your dedication to PPR and especially for all of your work in events!
