Save the Leftovers – Cruelty & Neglect Cases

Over the last 12 months we saved 3 amazing dogs that came in as horrific cruelty and neglect cases. All 3 had experienced unimaginable pain and suffering. PPR is well known in Central and South FL for being able to handle the most severe medical & cruelty cases; shelters know we have deep experience in taking these dogs, providing excellent medical care & finding them homes. They’re thrilled each time we say yes to them because it’s one less dog they have to euthanize.

Nova was abandoned and picked up as a stray. She was brought to us in terrible condition – anemic, emaciated, raw, bloody, crusty, infected skin covering her entire body, uncomfortable and in tremendous pain.

Gus was found starving and had sustained gruesome injuries. He had a gaping wound on the entire side of his body and looked like someone filleted him. With puncture wounds all over his face and body, his injuries were not brand new – he had necrotic tissue all over his face and was likely suffering for weeks. Both the shelter and our vets felt his wounds and behaviors were consistent with those of a bait dog.

Nautica came to us as an emergency situation, with two gunshot wounds. Her right elbow was completely shattered and that leg needs to be amputated. The second bullet hit Nautica’s right knee. That’s two bullet wounds, both on the same side, and both in joints. We sent the radiographs off to a specialist to see if they can repair the back leg (it appeared as though the bullet broke the femur at the very end). They believe it can be done – it’s a very complicated surgery and many things could go wrong. She’ll also need intensive post-operative care.

All 3 of these dogs are around 2 years old and humans already failed them. They have their whole lives ahead of them and we were determined to give them the best chance possible. They all deserve to know love, live in the comfort of a good home and have a soft bed. We are happy to report that Nova and Gus are healed and in wonderful forever homes. Nautica is in a foster home and will have surgery soon. None of these pups would have had this chance if we didn’t have your support.

If you believe that dogs like Nova, Gus and Nautica are worth saving, please consider a donation of $10 (or more) to our Save the Leftovers campaign by December 6th so we can reach our goal of raising $10,000.
