Poodle and Pooch Rescue of Florida

Fireworks & Thunderstorms, Oh My! (Infographic ❤️)

The “Dog Days of Summer” are officially here.

And in Central Florida, that means some celebratory fireworks—at least a few times—and daily spontaneous thunderstorms.

Your “chill” pup can go from having a Jimmy Buffet-laid-back vibe to Nightmare on Elm Street in a matter of minutes if the loud sudden “booms” scare him.

Panting, pacing, whining, shaking, hiding, and excessive drooling are all pretty common symptoms for dogs that get stressed by loud sounds.

And in some cases, your pooch may even be triggered to the point of being destructive or running away from home.

Although the latter two responses are most concerning for YOU as the dog-mom or dog-dad, it’s never easy to watch your furry friend suffer.

And even though anxiety levels will differ as much as WHAT comforts your pup, there are some simple steps you can take to minimize the distress and help them get through the scary moments.

Check out our infographic for some great reminders, but the biggest TAKE-AWAY is to always protect your pup!

At PPR, we see a lot of strays come through our “rescue doors.” And unfortunately, holiday festivities are sometimes to blame for runaways.

By microchipping or at least having your dog wear an ID tag, you double the chances of being reunited with your furbaby.
